Director of Information Technology

Currently the Toledo Zoo is seeking a Director of Information Technology. Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for demonstrating leadership and technical expertise to perform all functions necessary to maintain a stable, reliable information systems environment for the Toledo Zoo.

Director of Information Technology responsibilities involve:

· Work closely with leadership and stakeholders to develop/oversee/implement an overall technology strategy that aligns the work of the IT Department with the goals of the Zoo.
· Manage IT team which may involve instructing; assigning and reviewing work; planning; maintaining standards; coordinating activities; allocating personnel; acting on employee problems; selecting new employees; and recommending transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions and salary increases.
· Recommend, design, schedule, and perform network improvements, upgrades and repairs. Identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance.
· Researches, recommends, and coordinates purchases of computer hardware, software, copiers and supplies. Conduct research to gain information about products or processes.
· Implement security measures for computer or information systems.
· Oversees Helpdesk operation utilizing various help desk tools to provide 24 hour seven days a week on-call technical assistance for the staff.
· Oversees the testing of computer software or hardware procedures. Analyze data to identify or resolve operational problems.
· Researches, recommends, and coordinates purchases of computer hardware, software, copiers and supplies. Conduct research to gain information about products or processes.
· Coordinates maintenance and support with third party vendors for all software systems utilized by Zoo operations. This includes software and hardware support issues and keeping current on system releases.
· Work to develop close working relationship with key staff across the organization to develop/oversee/implement an overall technology strategy that aligns the work of the IT department with the goals of the Zoo.

This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires time worked in excess of forty hours per week. Reports to the Vice President of Finance. Bachelor’s degree with seven years hands on experience, three years supervisory or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the necessary skills and abilities. Master’s degree a plus. Must have a strong familiarity with a broad range of information technology services and concepts (including Microsoft, Office 365 and VMware), and a demonstrated facility at balancing business needs with technological realities. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Zoo fleet insurance carrier. • Requires working flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• May require working in all weather conditions, the ability to stand for extended periods and walk extensively on Zoo grounds.
• Can work up to 125 hours a month.

Seasonal

• Typically begin in the spring and end in the fall.
• Must be able to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.
• May require working in all weather conditions, the ability to stand for extended periods and walk extensively on Zoo grounds.
• Can work up to 40 hours a week during their designated season.
