Currently the Toledo Zoo is seeking an Elephant Keeper. This position is responsible for performing a variety of duties related to elephant husbandry and the maintenance of exhibits for the department. Elephant Keeper responsibilities involve:

  • Maintaining high standards of animal care through preparation and distribution of appropriate diets, animal observation, record maintenance and cleaning of animal areas and some public areas

Assistant Director of Back of House Operations

Assistant Director of Back of House Operations

The Assistant Director of Back of House Operations is responsible for the overall management of the back of house catering and concessions operations. Monitors the supervision of subordinate staff in the maintenance of facilities, guest service, and alcohol and labor control. Monitors and maintains excellent food and beverage quality, sanitation standards, and overall customer service. Prepares and collaborates with the development of annual budget. Reports to the VP of Sales and Food Service Operations.

Assistant Director of Back of House Operations duties include:

  • Monitors the profitability of the BOH catering and concessions department. while coaching and guiding managers to meet goals and objectives.
  • Develops and monitors standards of customer service and food presentation, as well as oversees beverage operations including alcohol.
  • Develop and maintain long term training and retention goals for BOH catering and concessions staff.
  • Oversee accurate monthly inventory for all BOH goods.
  • Work closely with Assistant Director of FOH Operations, Executive Chef, Sous Chefs, and Concessions Managers to ensure highest quality of customer service is maintained.
  • Maintain catering and concessions facilities to be clean and organized, work with maintenance and facilities as need on building issues.
  • Monitors expenditures; plans and implements department purchases to attain food readiness, while keep par levels where they need to be on items.
  • Assists with preparing and implementing an operating budget for the catering and concessions department including labor and food budgets.
  • Interacts and coordinates with other Zoo departments in order to solicit, plan and implement support for other activities, special events and programs as needed.
  • Maintains facilities in accordance with state, federal and local policies and laws as well as Toledo Zoo policies and procedures.

Minimum Training and Experience

Associate degree in a Culinary or Hospitality program, business management, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in business and food service management, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Cash Control Coordinator

Cash Control Coordinator

The Cash Control Coordinator manages cash control activities for the Finance Department which involves balancing daily deposits, preparing bank deposits, entering information into computer, processing all received monies, and preparing various reports. Provides administrative support as needed. Reports to the Controller.

Cash Control Coordinator duties include:

  • Counts and balances each location’s deposit from previous day using cash counting machines and POS reports; records information onto daily reports. Manages the daily outgoing and incoming of banks and keys.
  • Oversees all cash requirement needs for operations including coordinating with different departments for events and seasonal changes.
  • Maintains currency & coin inventory in safe, this includes ordering cash and cash supplies.
  • Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits various reports and records including List deposits, Credit Card Reports, Attendance Reports, Daily Reports, Consolidated Reports and general office correspondence.
  • Manages the operations and staffing within the Business Office and ensures policy compliance.

Minimum Training and Experience

High school diploma and one to two years of previous cash handling experience, experience in accounting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience required. Recruiter

The Recruiter performs aspects of the recruitment and hiring process for full and part time staff and will be responsible for the coordination of part-time and seasonal employee events. This position will also assist with the development of strategies for employee retention and will coordinate diversity recruiting efforts for the Zoo. Reports to the Assistant Director of Talent Acquisition and HRIS.

Recruiter Duties Include:

  • Collaborates with the Assistant Director of Talent Acquisition in the strategic development of the Zoo’s recruiting program and coordinates diversity programming and events.
  • Identifies department needs and recruits through advertisements, job fairs, temporary employment agencies, college programs, web site maintenance and other creative methods.
  • · Cultivates a talent pipeline for various positions based on business need. Actively sources candidates from target sources as required.
  • · Serves as primary point of contact for candidates throughout the recruiting process.
  • · Performs full cycle recruiting efforts for the Zoo from application to onboarding for part time applicants; full time applicants, as needed.

Accountant

The Accountant is responsible for general accountant duties and performing miscellaneous accounting activities while ensuring all policies and procedures are being followed. Maintains accounts receivable records and billings. Reports to the Controller.

Accountant Duties Include:

  • Performs various accounting duties and functions in areas of need within the Finance Department while ensuring accuracy, consistency and compliance.
  • Prepare and record transactional journal entries into the general ledger systems. These transactions may relate to a variety of areas such as daily sales, fixed assets, payroll, cash, investments, expense accruals, etc.
  • Works closely with Accounts Payable and provides support for AP overflow and backup.
  • Maintains accounts receivable records and enters billing. Processes and submits invoices to customers. Reviews aging reports and investigates overdue items.
  • Applies best practices to all Finance areas by adding value through process improvement and creating workflow efficiencies.
  • Receives, reviews, prepares, and/or submits various reports.

The Merchandise Shift Supervisor position oversees merchandise personnel and the completion of daily operations. Aquarium Curator

Aquarium Curator

The Toledo Zoo is seeking an Aquarium Curator that is responsible for the daily operations of the Aquarium facility, as well as the Malawi aquarium. This position interacts with other curators, registrar, veterinarians and education department through the Zoological Operations team. Directs, manages, and coordinates departmental activities and programs for the aquarium. The aquarium opened in 1939 and underwent a $25 million renovation in 2015. It currently houses over 6000 specimens of 284 species. Reports to Chief Mission Officer /Senior Vice President.

Position Summary:

  • Monitors health and welfare of specimens, operation of physical plant, life support, and departmental records.
  • Supervises aquarium zookeeper staff.
  • Develops and maintains departmental collection plan, emergency procedures, safety programs, and budgets.
  • Ensure that animal care standards meeting regulatory standards and compliance.
  • Interacts with outside agencies in order to remain abreast of updated information and events.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Zoology, or related field; a minimum of five years curatorial/supervisory experience in a zoological setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The Membership Services Associate provides clerical and data entry support to the Membership Department. This position involves aspects of customer service, data and document processing, membership billing, clerical coordinating, ordering supplies, and providing general assistance as needed. Membership Services Associate Duties Include:

  • Answering and responding to telephone calls, monitoring of email accounts for customer/member correspondence, customer/member follow-up, accepting and encouraging upgrades, emailing reciprocal zoo information, handling routine membership questions and concerns.
  • Coordinates and conducts billing of members which involves sorting and selecting for renewal notices, printing notices, checking information for accuracy, preparing notices for mailings, and coordinating the mailing process.
  • Accurately processes online and mailed membership enrollments, which involves entering information into the computer using the Zoo’s database system, changing information as needed, posting the information, sorting and selecting for the cards, merging the files to print the membership cards, preparing the cards for mailings, sending gifts as needed, maintaining all database records and files.
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing mail operations and tracking mailing information.
  • Performs various administrative support duties consisting of assisting members, maintaining stock materials, maintaining a clean and orderly workplace, running mailing labels, processing deposits for enrollments received by mail, and providing information for reports as needed.
  • Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits various reports, lists and general office correspondence as directed.

Minimum Training and Experience

Minimum of one-year experience in data entry/office administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Position requires strong alpha and numeric data entry skills. Landscape Crew

Education - Snooze Guide

Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for the operation of the Snooze overnight program, including setting up facilities, greeting and escorting groups of children and chaperones through the activities and Zoo grounds, handling small animals, presenting animal demonstrations, delivering the education program content with positive guidance and leadership, maintaining the safety of visitors, sustaining orderliness, fostering open communication to all parties and serving the Zoo’s mission. Education Programmer

Under limited supervision, responsible for delivering programming in the Toledo Zoo’s Education Department. Volunteer Program Assistant

Supports the Volunteer Department with the general supervision of the Volunteer Department. The Cash Control Coordinator manages cash control activities for the Finance Department which involves balancing daily deposits, preparing bank deposits, entering information into computer, processing all received monies, and preparing various reports. The Accountant is responsible for general accountant duties and performing miscellaneous accounting activities while ensuring all policies and procedures are being followed. Maintains accounts receivable records and billings. Reports to the Controller.

The Toledo Zoo is seeking an Aquarium Curator that is responsible for the daily operations of the Aquarium facility, as well as the Malawi aquarium. This position interacts with other curators, registrar, veterinarians and education department through the Zoological Operations team. Directs, manages, and coordinates departmental activities and programs for the aquarium. The aquarium opened in 1939 and underwent a $25 million renovation in 2015. It currently houses over 6000 specimens of 284 species. Reports to Chief Mission Officer /Senior Vice President.

Position Summary:

  • Monitors health and welfare of specimens, operation of physical plant, life support, and departmental records.
  • Supervises aquarium zookeeper staff.

The Membership Services Associate provides clerical and data entry support to the Membership Department.   • Accurately processes online and mailed membership enrollments, which involves entering information into the computer using the Zoo’s database system, changing information as needed, posting the information, sorting and selecting for the cards, merging the files to print the membership cards, preparing the cards for mailings, sending gifts as needed, maintaining all database records and files.
  • Coordinates incoming and outgoing mail operations and tracking mailing information.
  • Performs various administrative support duties consisting of assisting members, maintaining stock materials, maintaining a clean and orderly workplace, running mailing labels, processing deposits for enrollments received by mail, and providing information for reports as needed.
  • Receives reviews, prepares and/or submits various reports, lists and general office correspondence as directed.

Minimum Training and Experience

Minimum of one-year experience in data entry/office administration, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Position requires strong alpha and numeric data entry skills.
