Maintenance Technician

Under general supervision, responsibilities are to perform repairs, maintenance, and preventative maintenance to buildings and grounds and related equipment. This position reports to Facilities Maintenance Manager. This position is an hourly non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours per the scheduled work week. Responsibilities include performing vehicle and small engine repair, vehicle maintenance, performing building and grounds related maintenance duties, maintaining the animal exhibit filtration systems, light electrical repairs and installations. Will also perform snow removal by hand as well as using equipment. Will order and obtain supplies, tools and other equipment needed in performance of assigned jobs. Will perform work independently in order to meet prescribed deadlines and standards. Performs other related duties as required, appropriate to skill level and experience.

Prefer technical degree in maintenance or related field. Requires a high school diploma with additional education in a maintenance or related field and 5 years’ experience, or a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must be familiar with common maintenance materials and tools. Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier.

Sous Chef

Sous Chef

The Sous Chef supports the Executive Chef in the daily activities of the catering department. Provides supervision, training and guidance to subordinate kitchen personnel. Performs duties related to catering services such as menu development, training staff, monitoring food production and food quality, running kitchen when Chef is not there, etc. Reports to the Executive Chef.

Sous Chef Duties Include:

  • Assists Executive Chef in the implementation of policies and procedures for staff.
  • Assists with maintaining budgeted guidelines related to kitchen expenditures.
  • Executes catering services provided for events to promote and ensure that the established standards of customer service, food quality, and cleanliness are met.
  • Performs catering service duties such as preparing food and buffets, setting up supplies, serving food to customers, cleaning up storage areas, ordering food items from warehouse, transporting food to various locations, etc.
  • Uses labor hours within budgetary guidelines when making weekly staff schedule, also prepares and processes time cards and payroll processing for department.
  • Development and preparation of food menus for employees and catering department, as directed.
  • Communicates events with staff and departments.
  • Maintains all catering kitchen facilities and equipment in accordance with state, federal, and local policies and laws as well as Toledo Zoo policies and procedures.
  • Interviewing, hiring, and developing staff for department.

Minimum Training and Experience

Formal education in a Culinary Arts or Hospitality program preferred with a minimum of two years of experience in a similar capacity. A combination of education and experience may be considered to provide the necessary knowledge and skills to fill the position. Supervisory experience is preferred for the position. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and requires forty hours worked per week. Must have a valid drivers’ license and be insurable by the fleet insurance carrier. Volunteer Summer Aide

(Part-Time)

Supports the Volunteer Department with the general supervision of the ZOOTeen, Zoo Ed, and Exhibit Guide programs. This includes daily on site supervision of teen volunteers, training and coaching volunteers at education stations and exhibits, leading on and off grounds activities for the ZOOTeen program, general supervision responsibilities for Zoo and volunteer events, volunteer scheduling, responding to volunteer communications (phone, email, volunteer social media), delivering exhibit demonstrations as part of the summer feed series, and other duties as needed to support the department.

This position reports to the Volunteer Coordinator. It is hourly/part time position at 28 hours a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must be available weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Volunteer Summer Aide

(Part-Time)

Supports the Volunteer Department with the general supervision of the ZOOTeen, Zoo Ed, and Exhibit Guide programs. This includes daily on site supervision of teen volunteers, training and coaching volunteers at education stations and exhibits, leading on and off grounds activities for the ZOOTeen program, general supervision responsibilities for Zoo and volunteer events, volunteer scheduling, responding to volunteer communications (phone, email, volunteer social media), delivering exhibit demonstrations as part of the summer feed series, and other duties as needed to support the department.

This position reports to the Volunteer Coordinator. It is hourly/part time position at 28 hours a week from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Must be available weekends, evenings, and holidays.

Applicants must have at least 1 year enrollment in the Toledo ZOOTeen program or equivalent experience with youth service organizations, must pass a criminal background check, valid driver’s license, and be insurable with fleet insurance carrier (requires applicants to be 21 years of age). High school diploma preferred.
